Our family is spread out some. I’m from NC, the wife is from FL, so far all kids are from MD. I know I’ve been somewhat de-countrified since living up here the past 12 or so years but I know its still in me when I come home to NC and my accent seems to automatically switch back without effort. I never really thought about my accent until this recent conversation with Nariah.
“Nariah, what would you like to drink? Milk… OJ…..”
Before I could finish she cuts me off with “Water please daddy”
“Water? You’d rather have that over milk or OJ?”
“What did you say?”
“What? Water?”
“Why do you say it like that?”
“Like what? what do you mean?”
“Its not ‘War-tur’ daddy, its ‘Water‘”
“LOL, well baby, some people say things differently, like people from NY may say ‘Sualt’ instead of ‘Salt’ or ‘Courfee’ instead of ‘Coffee’”
“Ummm, I don’t know about that… but its still called ‘Water’”
I can just see it now, maybe 5 or so years from now, come father’s day, I’ll be receiving this book wrapped up nicely…
